Music

Choir:

Our Savior’s has an active choir directed by Charles Fritz for the last 35 years. They sing 3 Sundays a month during the first service, as well as special events liturgical celebrations. They also present an annual Christmas Concert fundraiser.

Sunday School Music:

The youngest members of Our Savior’s share their love of music with the congregation monthly. This is usually the second Sunday of the month during the school year.

Liturgical Dancers:

During the school year, confirmation students participate in Liturigical Dance, a form of prayer. They learn sign language and movement to contemporary Christian songs and present this prayer during services. Although they don’t have a “regularly” scheduled time to present, there are usually 3 or 4 songs learned per school year.

Education

SPARK School

Beginning in the fall of 2012 we implemented a new strategy for "Sunday School" using the SPARK curriculum from Augsburg Fortress which follows the lectionary. Our SPARK education classes are held on Wednesday evenings for ages 3 years through 6th grade, from 5:30pm-6:30pm. We found that parents felt it was easier to commit to bringing students on a weeknight than a Sunday morning. We also added a worship service on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-7pm, encouraging the students and parents to attend. This service has a little more contemporary feel to it.

Teachers enjoy the curriculum as it ties in perfectly with the lectionary readings that Pastor talks about and the students enjoy being able to asnwer questions at the intereactive service.

Many of our older youth that have completed Sunday school volunteer to be teacher assistants and the kids really love that!

Our Saviors Lutheran Church teaches the students in a very fun, loving way that helps them retain the bible stories they learn about.

Confirmation

Confirmation is a time in the Lutheran Church that the youth are given the opportunity to “confirm” their beliefs in God and Jesus Christ and become a full fledged member of their congregations. This rite of passage is a voluntary act. Many of the youth would say their parents strongly support and encourage this milestone in their lives.

Confirmation classes at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church begin in the 7th grade and continue through the 8th grade. During the early months of their 9th grade the students will receive final instructions before the Rite of Confirmation in the fall.

Typically confirmation classes are held on Wednesdays during the school year immediately after school. Confirmation students are paired with a mentor during the Lenten season. Mentoring expands the circle of trusted adults the youth can turn to. It sets aside time to  discuss specific areas of how to relate our faith to everyday life while experiencing the Lenten journey together. Confirmation students are also expected to be on a rotating acolyte schedule.

VBS - Vacation Bible School

Held during the summer months, typically one day each week for 5 weeks OR 5 days in a row.

Quilters

The quilting group of Our Savior’s Lutheran meets Tuesday mornings at 9am during the school year to tie and construct quilts. New members are always welcome to join! Many members also sew tops at home. Each year hundreds of quitls are made and sent to Lutheran World Relief. Quilts are also presented to the congregation’s graduating seniors from high school.

  • Lutherans are Christians who accept the teachings of Martin Luther (1483 – 1546). Luther was a German theologian who realized that there were significant differences between what he read in the Bible and the practices of the Roman Catholic church at that time. On October 31, 1517, he posted a challenge on the door of Wittenberg University, titled “95 Theses” (to debate 95 theological issues). His hope was that the church would reform its practice and preaching to be more consistent with the Word of God as contained in the Bible.

What started as an academic debate escalated into a distinct separation between the Roman Catholic church of the time and those who accepted Luther’s suggested reforms. "Lutheran" became the name of the group that agreed with Luther’s convictions.

Today, nearly five centuries later, Lutherans still celebrate the Reformation on October 31 and still hold to the basic principles of Luther’s theological teachings, such as Grace alone, faith alone, Scripture alone. These comprise the very essence of Lutheranism:

      We are saved by the

    grace of God alone

  • Pastor Dennis W. Olson

Pastor Olson came to Our Savior’s in January of 2005 as a Supply Pastor after the former pastor resigned. Later that year the call committee and the congregation called him to be the one pastor.

Pastor Olson has over 35 years of experience in ordained ministry. He has served as a clinical chaplain for 14 years; four years at a county health care center and 10 years at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. He served parishes in Strumm and Eleva, Wisconsin for 11 years. Before coming to Our Savior’s he served as an Interim Pastor in several parishes in Wisconsin.

Pastor Olson is married to Mary Reinke-Olson. He has 3 grown sons and he and Mary have 2 sons, Tom-13 and Ben-11. He enjoys all sports, particularly basketball, and loves music. He likes doing yard work and working in the woods.

  • Our Faith In Action

Every day, in a million ways, members of the ELCA are making the world a better place. In far reaches of the globe, and right here in our neighborhood, you’ll see that Lutherans aren’t folks who simply talk about their beliefs. We put them into action.
So make a meal to share. Have your opinion on government policy heard. Help a friend through their time of need. Here you’ll find stories that inspire and opportunities to get involved. Find out just how rewarding God’s work can be.
